Kiss Gel Fantasy Nails

by - 9:00:00 AM

Hello guys,

I'll be honest with you guys, I totally forget about this review. I've had this post  for about 3 months now, but for some reason I forgot to publish it. So I'm very sorry to everyone who waited for this review too longs. Anyway, let's finally correct my mistake.

I don’t know if I mentioned that before, but I’m not happy with my natural nails. They are weird shaped, never grow long and just look kinda off. After many disappointments at nail salons, me and mom had decided to actually do our own nails. So we bought everything we need to and did our nails for a couple of months before I left to USA. I was thinking about refilling my gel there, in Santa Rosa, but gel nails are not quite popular there (acrylics are) and it ain’t cheap either (I rather spent the money on makeup :D). So I removed my gel nails with the thought „your nails are gonna rest, the will get strong and be prepared for another set of gel when you come back home". One, two, three weeks passed and I was sitting there and writing with my new nails. What a sad story. :D

Finally I gave a chance to press on nails. My one big memory about this type of nails is that it was waste of money. When I was a kid, every girl wanted press on nails, you know, be the queens and princesses, BUT… They never stayed on, not even for an hour. Since then I always evoid these nails and never gave it chance again. But lately I’ve noticed that many girls and women started to wear them again. So I googled the best drugstore brand, went to CVS and bought them. At the end of October I was going to another wedding, so I wanted to try these for example and if they would be good, I wouldve bought more fancy one and wore them on the wedding.

Let’s focus on what I’ve tried. I heard that Kiss Gel Fantasy Nails are one of the best brand in drugstore so I bought one in Ribbons color and in short size. This set includes 28 nails which mean 14 different size, so you definitely find you perfect size, then gel glue, 28 adhesive tabs, mini file, manicure stick and instruction. I think that’s a great deal. Don’t you think?

So you have two options how to stick your fake nails, to your nails. First you can use adhesive bands. Using the  adhesive tabs I can see two pros: quick to placing the fake nails and easy removing (they say you should spread nail polish remover around the nails edges, wait and then pop off; but it has one con: it doesn’t last too long. Using the gel glue is totally the other way- it took you little more time to glue your nails, you have to use more acetone on your nails, but it should last longer. So what you choose is only up to you. I’ve decided to use the glue.

Basically what I did… Removed nail polish, cleaned my cuticles, gently filed surface of my nails, wiped nails with acetone, chose the perfect size for each nail, applied glue on the fake nail and my nail to make sure it did work, pressed the fake nail on my nails and hold for 10-15 sec (thumbs were last nails). Just a little tip. You should apply the nails in the evening, when you’re done with shower and with other things you do during the day. Why? Because water is the worst enemy for the glue. When you apply the nails, you must avoid water at least for an hour. So I think the time before you go to bed is the best time to do the nails. your nails will set during the night and the glue won’t be in touch with water at least for 6-8 hours.

First impression: Maybe I applied a lot of glue, because at some nails my cuticles are sticked to the fake nails and it feels weird, maybe even little bit painfull. I hope it will feel better tomorrow. Second thing, my nails feel kinda heavy, but I believe it’s just the feel you need to use to. Otherwise I love how it turned out and how it looks like. It looks like I have pretty done manicure altough it’s noticeable that my nails are fake. But I don’t mind, because who doesn’t have?

First day: I applied my fake nails in evening, so the next day as I expected I was able to peel off my cuticles from the glue, which is perfect. I took two long showers, washed my hand milion times (just let you know, I’m kinda freak in washing my hands) and nails are still on. So far I think it’s great.

Second day: Nails are still on. No peel off anywhere. It still looks nice, but I’ve noticed some scratches on surface, nothing horrible, but it’s still there.

Third day: Took a long bath, washed dishes many times, worked, cleaned,… the nails hasn’t moved at all. I felt very good about them. :)

Fourth day - Twelfth day: I really didn’t know what different I should've said. These nails were still on and didn’t move or peel anywhere. I was very surprised. I didn’t expect anything like these. I’ve heard that they should stay on 5-7 days, according me, it will be longer. :)

Thirteenth day: I was noticing little peeling on seven nails, but it’s no big deal. They were still on and hold perfect.

Fourtheenth day:  Well, believe or not, exactly in two weeks my nails popped off. And guess what.. It was on wedding day (not mine obviously :D). I argued with myself if I should leave them and just wait till they pop off on their own, so I would give you guys honest review, or if I should've removed them and tried another set. So, I decided to be honest with yout guys, so I let them be, didn’t remove anything. And unfortunately, first nail popped off two hours before the wedding ceremony and next four nails popped off during the wedding. Thank God, for the adhesive tabs, so I could've reapplied them again. :D  After the wedding I removed all nails.

RESUME: These nails are amazing, they last pretty long, they are good looking, durable, don’t chip or having scratches on the surface. It’s easy and quick to apply them and remove them (comparing to gel nails). It’s definitely cheaper than salon nails, just be prepared that you need to apply them every 2 weeks. After all I have some cons for these nails. First one is - you never know when they popped off, so when you notice the first peeling off, you should bring adhesive tabs or nail glue anywhere you go. Second one is -when you remove the nails, you have to use soaked cotton pads with acetone. Third one is - no matter how nail glue is for nail, it does some damage to your nails. Because of that, I rate these nails with 3 stars.

Would I try it again? Yes, but I see these nails as an option for fancy events, vacations or something like that. I wouldn't probably use them as my regular everyday nails. :)

Have you guys tried press on nails? And what do you think about them?

Have a gret day!

Love, Michelle <3

  1. I've had the exact same experience as you in that I tried these nails when I was much younger and they were AWFUL and I have never tried them since. This has definitely made me want to try them again though, fourteen days is seriously impressive, even if they did pop off at the worst time!

I love that you have the glue to keep them on wen you first apply them then can carry around the strips for emergency touch ups, very clever!

  5. These look amazing on you! I'm not a huge fan of press on nails because my nail shape is weird so they never stay on for long. So awesome these lasted so long though!

  12. I can't get used to the feel of press on nails. I always pull them off lol
My natural nails used to be terrible (I was a nail biter for 20 years) but now they're strong and look nice with a good nail care routine - I have a review of the Pretty Serious nail hardeners on my blog, they are amazing, I highly recommend you check them out - it takes a while to see change in the nail but it works (and straight biotin supplements are great too). My nail polish used to only last a day, and now I can get a full week :)

  13. Brilliant review Michelle - so much detail and your honesty is refreshing. In love with the colour, not sure I would risk the nail damage, but hey, if I had a very special occasion coming up and my natural nails looked cr@p, they would be a quick and awesome solution xxx
