Makeup Myths

by - 9:00:00 AM

Hello guys,

in today's post I'm bringing for you guys some makeup myths which some of us still might believe in even if they are totally wrong. When I was younger I heard these myths all the time and I was so sad / mad that my friends believe them. So now, I'm gonna try to pick the biggest mistakes in my opinion and hopefully change some minds. :)

#1 Pump mascara for more products / get rid of clumps
This is such a huge trending myth since I was a kid and I still can see some people doing it. Only what I wanna do is to scream "WHY???" I don't have any idea where and when this "trend" started, but it is totally wrong. Pumping mascara you won't get more products or get rid of clumps, that is such a nonsense. On the other side, you actually makes your mascara dry faster, because you force air into the tube. So please, don't pump your mascara twice or three times before you apply.

#2 Apply concealer before foundation
This routine doesn't make sense, because applying your foundation first you cover most / every blemishes on skin. Concealer just covers the area which weren't covered with foundation.

#3 Makeup causes acne
Well, this is yes and no. Some makeup can irritate skin or clogs pores, but it's only up to you to find out if the specific product is good for you or not. When you find the perfect product, there is no way that your skin will break out.

#4 You can't wear every eyeshadow color
This is totally wrong. If you feeling it, you can wear any color you want to - bright colors, neutral colors, dark colors, …Anything, anything you want to. Yes, some shades can make eyecolor pops, but there is no wrong shade for any eyecolor. :)

#5 You can were only bold eyes and neutral lipstick or neutral eyes and bold lipstick
Who made that rule, huh? I have one advice for you - BE YOURSELF. Slay makeup the way how you love it and want it. You wanna do bold eyes and lips at the same time? Go for it and don't care what other people think. There is always gonna be someone who's gonna judge no matter what you wear. Step up and do what you like.

#6  Darker foundation makes you tan
Oh my! If you read and agree with this, slap yourself right now. Darker foundation is not gonna make you darker, it just makes you look like oompa loompa and crazy giraffe. Choose the right shade matching to your neck. If you still don't know, you can always ask someone who knows what to do. :)

#7 Oily skin doesn't need moisturizer
One of the biggest lie ever. Every skin needs to be moisturized, no matter whar type your skin is. You should choose some light oil free moisturizer which will hydrate your skin. Moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated (water-content of the skin not oil-content) and if you are using some acne treatment or products, it will protect skin from drying out.

I hope you guys don't do any of these mistakes, if yes, please, try to avoid them. :)

Have great day!

Love, Michelle <3

    1. I don't know, but a lot of girls/women in Czech use darker shades then they supposed to. It is pretty sad.

  2. Yes I can't stand when people say not to moisturise if you're oily - all skin needs moisturising! I don't really get concealing before foundation, I only colour correct first

    1. Exactly! No one should skip moisturizer, it's very important. And yes, color correcting is necessary to do before foundation. ;)

I hate it when people pump their mascara! I'm always telling off my Mum when she does that...that & her not cleaning off mascara at night (if she's worn it). I know I've stalked her like a crazy lady with a makeup removing wipe before haha. Thankfully she's got onto micellar water now & is using it at least semi-regularly.

  6. It's interesting where all these started hey Michelle. I eliminated all of this nonsense from my brain some time ago, but especially #4 & #5 - contrary to "expert" opinions, green eyeshadow makes green eyes look even greener, and I look dreadful with bold eyes and a nude lip as well as the reverse lol. Great article hon, so glad you're putting it out there xxx
